What WordPress.com does
mShots generates screenshots of web pages for WordPress.com and other users of its public endpoint. A request to s0.wordpress.com/mshots/v1/ with a URL triggers a fetch of that page. The service runs a Chromium browser through Puppeteer to render the page. Other user agents starting with WordPress.com; followed by a site URL were also observed.
03 · Impact
Why WordPress.com matters for your site
If you allow it
- Screenshots and previews of your pages display correctly
- Requests are triggered by real use, not bulk crawling
If you block it
- Anyone can request a screenshot of a public URL
- Rendering a full page adds some load
